PERSBERICHT

The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen Reopens on May 5, 2020The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen will reopen both locations — K20 and K21 — for visitors as of May 5, 2020. The normal opening hours for both venues will apply: Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and on weekends and public holidays from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.

The health of its visitors and employees is a top priority for the Kunstsammlung NordrheinWestfalen. For this reason, the social distancing and hygiene regulations aimed at the containment of the Covid-19 virus recommended by the health ministries and other ministries of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia shall apply to museum visits until further notice:

Limited number of visitors for both venues

Compliance with the distance regulation of 1.5 m

Wearing face and nose masks

Observance of hygiene rules

To protect visitors, special devices have been installed at the ticket counters and in the museum shops of K20 and K21. In addition, the above-mentioned distance and hygiene regulations also apply to museum staff.

Which exhibitions await visitors in K20 and K21?The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen is particularly pleased that the exhibitions Pablo Picasso. The War Years. 1939–1945 at K20 (through June 14, 2020) and I’M NOT A NICE GIRL! at K21 (extended until June 28, 2020) can now be visited again. The realization of the exhibition Charlotte Posenenske. Work in Progress at K20 (extended until August 2, 2020) is still in progress.
The installation “in orbit” by the artist Tomás Saraceno at K21 will remain closed for the time being due to distance and hygiene regulations.

As previously announced, the opening of the exhibition Thomas Ruff at K20 will take place on September 11, 2020. With the exhibitions Simon Denny (opening on September 3, 2020) and Hito Steyerl (opening September 25, 2020) at K21, and Thomas Ruff at K20, the fall season at the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen will be dominated by digital and photographic images.

The exhibition This is me. The Indian Modernist Amrita Sher-Gil at K20 has been postponed until the fall of 2021. The new edition of OPEN SPACE on the theme of “Nothing but the Future,” planned for the fall, will take place in the Grabbe Hall of K20 in the spring of 2021.

As it will not be possible to offer events, guided tours, and educational programs until further notice, the digital offers will be continuously expanded. Under #K20K21fromhome, the Kunstsammlung offers multimedia formats for experiencing art from home. These include the art tutorials for children six years of age and older, virtual exhibition tours, the digital booklet “K+” on the current Picasso exhibition, artist talks, and moving image series. A cooperation with actors and actresses from the Düsseldorf municipal theater is currently being implemented and promises new perspectives on selected works from the collection at both K20 and K21.

With this successive and responsible reopening of the museum, the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen hopes to be able to continue to contribute to the containment of the Covid19 virus and at the same time send a signal regarding the importance of art and culture in these challenging times.
